Sacred Relationships

Steven L. Hairfield, PhD

Sacred Relationships This time each year is referred to as the season of love, the time when people create special things to be given as their expression of love for another in this wonderful world of ours. Divine love is one aspect alone that is quite possibly the most important and sacred expression from which any human may emanate. It the most powerful energy that we have! Whether it is offered between any man and woman or between partners, this infinite energy may extend itself all the way towards great acts of compassion for every human being. It is actually the very seat of compassion when released to one another unconditionally. The individual human is one of the most sacred living beings in life because each one may choose and realize the consequences of their choice through the expression of love. By choosing to express only true Divine love for life and each other, we become the most sacred of all indeed. If there is one thing more sacred and powerful than the individual human, it comes in our relationships which bring forth the consummate expression of love, a relationship between masculine and feminine nature representing the undivided idea of our Creator. You see, a true and unconditional relationship between these two energies creates divine and sacred space, and like the Creator, the interaction between these two energies creates life through the act of love.

The original purpose of our physical expression was to match the idea of the Divine image and likeness written in the Biblical concept of our creation. Revealing the truth on this idea I offer the reader a few Biblical references, removing the religious dogma because, as a monk in the Far East, I was taught these same ideas from the Vedas and Buddhist Sutras, each a pre-Biblical text. The following chapters and verses are quoted in part from the Book of Genesis. First, Genesis 1:26 & 27: “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our Likeness...a male and a female…” And Genesis 3:22: “Lo, the man was as one of Us, as to the knowledge of good [truth] and evil [error]…” The words “truth” and “error” are bracketed to reveal the precise translations from ancient Aramaic, the original language used. You may ask, “What is the significance in these three verses?” Do you notice the words “Our” and “Us”? These two words are even capitalized, raising their significance to the Divine! So what is meant or intended by these very words? Perhaps theologians would say It is the Holy Trinity. Then why would the Creator refer to Itself as more than a single idea or concept, appearing to converse with Itself from the usage of plural pronouns?

If we are truly created in Its “image and likeness,” this implies that the Creator actually consists of two energies, masculine and feminine. God is purely androgynous as the two balanced Divine sources of these positive and negative energies, Divine energy. We are each created from Divine substance because only from these two attributes, the male and female, can the charge be created, thus giving birth to life. After all, did not the Divine create both the male and female in Its image and likeness? And did It not use these very two attributes of creation to accomplish the subsequent birth? Therefore, we the human are the end result. Let us take this idea even a step further. The ancient name of our Creator is spelled “YHWH.” Even though the word is unpronounceable due to the lack of vowels, we have found a way to say it nonetheless. Interestingly enough, these letters may simply express a demonstration of both the masculine and feminine source when “YHWH” is viewed as a sacred equation rather than simply a divine name.

From my teachings in the Far East, the “Y” and the “W” each represent the idea of feminine, while the two “H’s” represent the idea of masculine, with both energies required for life to even exist. These are where the idea of image and likeness come into play, “image” equating to our physical-masculine attribute and “likeness” equating to our soul-feminine attribute. As an analogy, you may see each attribute as one of the two terminal posts on a car battery, one positive and the other negative. When the ignition key is fully turned the circuit will close in order to connect and unify the two polarities, creating a charge. The resulting charge then flows to other components wherefrom the engine is started. If the charge from both the positive and negative energy sources is strong, the engine comes to life. If you desire a more thorough explanation I suggest that you read my newest book, “A Metaphysical Interpretation of the Bible.”

Having the basis of life in mind, we can now journey into the idea of relationships and the sacredness of love. If I may ask, “What is your idea of true love?” For sure, most of us do catch glimmers of true love from time to time; unfortunately, very few of us, if any, actually live it as our experience. In this context, true love implies the unconditional unwavering type, a love which is so deeply special that only a handful live its experience. If we were to look at all the books ever written in our present world, we would discover that “love” is by far the most dominate subject. And this may be the precise issue! “How can writing about love be an issue?” First, since books are generally written using thought a book inherently can only express what is from the author’s mind rather than emotion. Therefore, when reading these prolific works, we actually intellectualize the emotional concept of love, a concept about which only emotion can convey its truest idea. Books reinforce an emotional concept in our minds wherefrom we think our way through it. Unfortunately, this is not how to truly express the original intention. Second most authors desire to share their knowledge and experience with others in the name of  “self-help” or “guidance. “What does a ‘how to’ book imply?” In my experience, it implies we originally do not know “how to”, that if we choose to know then we must seek by reading “how to.” And how many “how to’s” do you often read before “knowing how to?” Believe me, you are not alone. The bottom line is the majority of published works simply rationalize the emotional concept of love, an innate Divine concept already within each of us this very moment!

One day while I lived at a monastery in India, I asked one of my teachers about the idea of love. His reply was very simple: “Young man, true love does not know time or distance; it only knows love. If it takes longer than five seconds it is not true love.” He added, “This will only occur when you encounter your twin soul [twin flame] and does not happen for just any person. It must be your twin. If you wait for this experience then you will be together for your lifetime. It is your physical representation of God.” He continued, “This is the most sacred of all relationships one may encounter. You should be patient and wait for this experience.” Being the typical American in my twenties, I did not wait; however, after many relationships, I now have found his words to be so very apropos, their truth echoing so clearly in my mind when I met Karen. Even though 1500 miles separated us initially, our connection was instant and absolute. Just as I was taught our relationship refreshes as each moment unfolds. My lovely bride Karen is absolutely my best friend. We accept each other free of conditions - purely unconditional acceptance.

What is a twin soul or twin flame? Are these other terms for soul mate? No, there is a real difference between a soul mate and a twin soul. The truth is those who are looking specifically for their soul mate may, in fact, be looking for their worst nightmare. According to Edgar Cayce, we incarnate between 200 and 250 times on average and, in accordance with the principles of Karma, those individuals whom we have “wronged” shall surely return to pay back our Karmic debt. Now I ask you, “Are you absolutely certain you wish to be tied with a soul whose sole mission is to ‘pay you back’?” A twin soul, on the other hand, is the one who resonates with the identical things you do. The instant you meet there is this overwhelming absolute sense of knowing you have just met your flame because he or she is your twin harmonic or vibration, the whole reason behind your instant recognition. If you enter into a relationship which seems to be developing too fast, for heaven sakes, do not slow it down! Remember what the Master said: “Love does not know time or distance; it only knows love.” This is definitely a very powerful experience in which to share and be a part of, a relationship wherein there exists only an even harmonious flow, an unconstrained sharing between two people.

Sacred relationships represent the God-in-the-flesh idea Biblically portrayed by Adam and Eve, Joseph and Mary, even Jesus and Mary Magdalene, each a union of masculine and feminine energies betrothed in perfect symmetry. No matter what one partner says or does, only complete acceptance endures each moment between twin souls as their energy dynamics flow with implicit harmony and creativity. A sacred relationship forms the actual temple of life when twin souls share their higher divine nature, so simple and natural to live by. Can you imagine just how empowering this relationship can be from the presence of such Divine power in union? We each have a twin flame or twin soul! And we will always find the other when we patiently wait. In doing so, you will operate in the Archetypical fashion of the Divine, physically separate yet mentally, emotionally, and soulfully unified at the same moment.

The original intention of our Creator is for us to emulate It through our actions and activities in this physical world through our relationships. Are you aware we constantly strive for our perfection to achieve the perfect reward we so justly deserve? Do you realize this comes in the form of sacred relationships? Simply by offering only the highest of expressions in your activities with your partner, by allowing every being to be who they purely are in any given moment, by revering all life, then you will achieve personal empowerment as have all the great masters throughout time. The masculine and feminine aspects are the two primordial energies of life and, as the ancient texts tell us, when the two are made into one we then become Divinely powerful. The crux of this ancient message says that to attract our twin soul we must first unify our self, harmoniously integrating our emotional (feminine) and mental (masculine) aspects into one field of energy. Once accomplished, we are truly ready for the personal Divine experience, living in a sacred relationship with another human being, our twin soul, a relationship which, shall remove any form of doubt on Divine love.
